What better way is there to end a long work week and head into a hot weekend than with a discussion about ice cream?
I think pretty much every kid loves ice cream! Some more than others, but still most do.
Maddie is no different. Before she could even speak well, she had honed in on our spelling of the word and started calling it by those three letters. She would ask for i-c-e. We figured that since she knew what we were spelling, we may as well call it “ice cream” so that she would at least learn the correct pronunciation.

Like most kids, Maddie just didn't realize what she was wasting ... that was some good Ben & Jerry's before she got ahold of it.
Many people have a favorite flavor of ice cream, while some are not partial at all. There are debates as to what the best ice cream brand is. Here in Oregon, many tend to favor either Umpqua or Tillamook. Maybe it is because they are local or maybe they are just plain good.
One reason for sure is that some of the flavors are just not offered by any other ice cream brand.
Tillamook even goes out of their way to make a flavor that originates here in Oregon:
Umpqua makes two of my husband’s favorite ice creams:
Umpqua even celebrated Oregon’s 150th birthday with its own limited edition flavor called Oregon’s 150. It had roasted Oregon Hazelnuts with a clover honey base and a huckleberry syrup drizzle throughout. I was sorry to see it only last 6 months as those are some of my favorite flavors all in one. I am glad that I got to try it and I am pleasantly surprised that a local company puts so much thought in to its customer’s background.
Me, I’m partial to Umpqua but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy many other ice cream brands as well. I do love Tillamook’s Mountain Huckleberry that I mentioned before, Häagen-Dazs has a wonderful Vanilla Honey Bee and a Bailey’s that I love, Ben & Jerry’s has their Dublin Mudslide, Cherry Garcia, and my husband’s other favorite Phish Food.
But if you ask Maddie “what is the best ice cream brand?” she just wouldn’t care. All she wants to know is “where is the ice cream?” She does have a favorite flavor though, if you can call it that. She loves vanilla ice cream sprinkled with M&M’s, and who can blame her for that.
Does your child have a favorite brand of ice cream, how about a favorite flavor or yummy concoction?
